I have been working on a baby dress. After many times of taking apart what I had done, I finally came up with a dress I love. I have decided to share it with you :) I am also working on a video on how to make the dress. I hope to have it finished soon and posted on youtube.

Tie and cut off yarn
8. Attach color B with a single crochet in the fourth stitch from the corner (not the corner with your knot on it). When you reach the end where your knot is, don't chain 1 and turn. Single crochet in the 3 stitches you skipped at the beginning. It should look like this: (62 sc)
9. Slip stitch into 1st single crochet--chain 1--pull your loop up to match the size of a double crochet--double crochet in the same stitch and each around (62 dc)
10. Slip stitch into 1st double crochet--chain 1--single crochet in the same stitch and around (62 sc)
Tie and cut off yarn
11. Attach color A in any stitch on the back--chain 1--pull your loop up to match the size of a double crochet--5 double crochets in the same stitch *skip 2 sts--V in next stitch--skip 2 sts--shell next stitch* X 10--last 2 stitches will remain unworked
12. Slip stitch into the 1st double crochet--slip stitch through the next 2 double crochets (this is the center stitch of the shell stitch)--*shell in center stitch of previous round shell--V in 2 double crochet of previous round V* around
13.-23. Repeat round 12.
Cut and Tie thread
To add beads, I use fireline fishing line. I use fireline because it doesn't rot like regular thread will do after too many washes.
Determine where you would like to place the beads in the white. I personally like them all the way across. Leaving a tail, go down between two double crochets, under and back up between the next two crochets. I am using yarn so that you can see what I am doing.
Tie the fishing line off--make sure you knot it several times and don't cut by the knots, instead weave the tail in after you knot it.
I added a flower to bottom of my dresses. I used the picot flower from SkaMama's blog.
I adore this pattern, and I've made it twice now, but I have found what I think is an error, and I wanted to let you know, so that you can revise it so that less experienced crocheters don't get confused and discouraged. In instruction #8, there is no mention of attaching the v-stitches together, and unless you do this, it will never create sleeves. So the pattern should be:
ReplyDeleteAttach color B with a sc in the 4th stitch from the corner, then sc in each stitch along until you come to the first v-stitch, then attach this v-stitch to the next v-stitch with a sc, then sc along until you come to the next v-stitch and attach it to the last v-stitch with a sc, then sc to the end and sc in the 3 stitches you skipped at the beginning.
The number of stitches still works out to 62, and it would be several more if you don't attach the v-stitches to each other. That's how I figured out the mistake. I'm sure it was your intention in your head when you wrote the pattern, but it didn't get added into the directions.
As I said, I am in love with this pattern, and hope everyone that stumbles upon this page (I found it through Pinterest) will try it and make this darling dress for all the little baby girls in their lives. It's one of the easiest and most lovely patterns I've ever seen for a baby dress, especially with the addition of that sweet flower (but I have also made one with a bow near the waist band, and a star applique, too).
Thank you so much for sharing this pattern! I can't say enough great things about it!
