I decided to make something for my nieces, nephews, and my boys for Easter. I wanted something fun so I decided upon chicks. Well my chicks look more like ducks, but they turned out great!
They turned out so cute that I think I shall share the pattern! :)
Slip stitch at the end of each round, chain 1 but do not turn -- chain 1 is for moving up to the next round only, does not count as a stitch
Worsted weight yarn and a G hook
Round 1: You can either start with a magic circle and sc 6 sts in it or chain 2 and sc 6 sts in the second chain from the hook
Round 2: 2 sc in each stitch around - sl st into 1st sc (12)
Round 3: *1 sc then 2 sc in the next stitch* around - sl st into 1st sc (18)
Round 4: *sc in the next 2 sts then 2 sc in the next stitch* around - sl st into 1st sc (24)
Round 5: sc around - sl st into 1st sc (24)
Round 6: sc in next 10 stitches - sc in the back loop only in the next 3 stitches - sc in the next 11 stitches
Round 7: sc in the next 4 stitches - sc in the back loop only in the next 3 stitches - sc in the next 9 stitches - sc in the back loop only in the next 3 stitches - sc in the next 5 stitches
Rounds 8 - 10: sc around (24)
knot and cut thread
Add your eyes around row 4 right above the front loop only of round 6
Next is the beak
Find the 3 front loops left undone from round 6 -- with the top of the head facing toward you, slip stitch into the first loop to the right--sc and hdc in the same loop
In the next loop, dc-chain 1-triple-chain 1-dc
In the last loop hdc-sc-slip stitch
cut thread and weave in tail
Next is the wings
This will be the same for both sides. Locate the 3 front loops left undone from round 7--2 sc in each loop (6)
chain 1 - TURN - sc across (6)
chain 1 - TURN - sc in first stitch - hdc next - dc chain 1 triple in the next stitch - triple chain 1 dc in the next stitch - hdc in next - sc in last
cut thread
starting at bottom put 3 sc crochets up the side, sc in the next 3 stitches across the top, sc in the chain 1, chain 1, hdc in the next 2 stitches, chain 1, sc in the chain 1 space from previous round, sc in the next 3 stitches, and put 3 scs down the next side
Tuck in your tails
Body
Rounds 11 - 13: sc around (24)
Round 14: *sc in the next 2 stitches - sc decrease* around (18)
Round 15: *sc then sc decrease in the next* around (12)
stuff and add something heavy to make him stand - I used the marbles that are flat on one side (the fish tank ones) because they were large enough not to slip through the bottom
Round 16: sc decrease around (6)
cut and tie off and sew in tail
If you want to give him a bow tie, you can view the free pattern at Adaiha's blog3e33ew.
For the girls, I hot glued a bow with a crystal in the middle
Hope you have as much fun as I did making these!
Thank you for this pattern! I'm midway through my second one. I have to make things like this in multiples of four these days, so it's nice that the pattern goes so quickly! I'm not making the body in two pieces, though; the beak & wings go on just fine after the body is made and stuffed. The girls are going to just love these! (The baby, who has been watching me make them, already wants hers.)
ReplyDeleteYou are very welcome! I do mine in two pieces because it is easier for me. I am glad though that you love the pattern. I made 6 of them. I have 2 boys, 2 nieces, and 2 nephews. I hope they love them and have fun with them!!
